How To: Polish Dings Out of a Hammer Face or Bench Block

| Whenever you hammer metal, any texture on the face of your hammer or on the surface of your bench block will transfer to your metal. If you're looking to achieve a rustic texture, a pitted, dinged, or rusted hammer face may create just the look you want. But if you're after a smooth, shiny surface, using that same hammer will require you to do a lot of post-hammering cleanup work. If your hammer has accumulated dings or rust, you can restore your hammer to a mirror finish (or even improve the face of a new hammer that isn't as polished as you'd like). Restoring your hammer face will only take three quick steps, and smoothing your bench block will only take two steps, since buffing isn't necessary. |
