Metal Clay

How To: Firing Metal Clay

Published: November 5, 2007
You can fire metal clay in a kiln, with a butane torch, on a gas stovetop, in a hot pot, or with a propane-fueled outdoor stove.

Follow the metal clay manufacturer's instructions for firing temperatures and times.

Fired metal clay appears white because tiny silver particles protrude from the surface. Burnishing the surface compresses the particles so that the metal reflects light and appears shiny. Burnish your piece with a stainless steel brush or a brass brush with soapy water.
